SDK

The development kit for the module range.

A separate team-process reference can be found this guide.

What accompanies a module

Data sheet, product brief, EVB user guide, 3D step file, reference manual, binary firmware and image loaderlisted per module.

For camera modules

The EVK and the Panther tool, available after signing an NDA.

And a note worth making before selection: the software provided is the item most consistently underestimated in a module decision. A module with slightly worse numbers and a working driver reaches a prototype months earlier than one with better numbers and a register list.

Asking

Review the information checklist for what is available for a specific part and a specific platform.

What to establish before selecting

Four questions, and they belong alongside the image quality ones.

What software is provided? Reference code, a full driver, or a register list — three very different amounts of help.

For which operating system and version? A driver for a kernel several versions behind yours is a porting exercise.

Under what licence?

And is there a reference design for a processor resembling yours?

The bring-up

Rails, register read, test pattern, real image — in that order, which eliminates causes in sequence.

Skipping to the last step is why bring-up takes weeks: a black image has a dozen possible causes.

And the internal test pattern is the most valuable diagnostic available, because it separates link problems from scene problems in thirty seconds.
